Providing compassionate, patient, and effective literacy education is my passion, because everyone deserves to:

- Be able to read the menu at a restaurant, the voting ballot, and that latest novel

- Feel confident at work and school without relying on AI and spell-checkers

- Learn new skills, comprehend instructions, and access knowledge

- Express themselves clearly through written and spoken language

The Approach

Multi-sensory ○ Structured ○ Research-backed ○ Individualized ○ Effective for all learners

Reading is the key to a successful and fulfilling life

With a relationship-first mindset, each student's comfort and unique needs are the priority.

My role is to listen first and guide the student through the hard work of developing skills in reading, writing, and emotional regulation.

With Alexis, you'll never feel pressured, rushed, or dismissed.

I prioritize inclusive interactions that are:

  • Trauma-informed

  • Neuro-affirming

  • Anti-racist

  • BIPOC- and LGBTQIA-allied

  • Disability-aware

  • Feminist

  • Decolonizing, and

  • Culturally-humble.

All communications, materials, and information used by Whatcom Literacy Tutor and Alexis Hopkins are created without the use of AI.

This is in an effort to support clean drinking water and secure and comfortable living for all.

Discussion surrounding this is welcome, as well as feedback regarding the accessibility of this website and further services.

Struggling to read and write is scary and overwhelming.

I welcome you to reach out to me as a listening ear and for advice with no pressure to register for tutoring.
